Hi there,
I am looking for a 1600 engine for the above car. It doesn't have to be running as I can rebuild it and then fit it if necessary, although running would be nice. Are there any straight swap alternatives from later cars (eg: 1600 Sunbeam / Avenger) or will a 1725 fit straight in (if I can find one) and fit the existing gearbox? Am I correct in saying that the Super Minx has the same engine?
Sorry, possibly a lot of questions for my first post but this is my sons 18th birthday present and we really want it up together. The body is in the process of repair and whilst it runs, it could run a lot better.
Any help or suggestions received gratefully.
Thank you,
Ian

You're better off going for a 1725 engine. Any will fit the car, though you might need to change the front plate and or water pump and thermostat bits over if the engine comes from a Hunter. Also might need to swap flywheel and clutch, but should fit straight in on the existing gearbox. All the Rootes non imp engines from the period are basically the same - with either a cast iron or alloy head. Either will fit in your car.

Thank you for the advice. If I do this will anything else, eg. exhaust, need modifying. Will the gearbox that came with the 1725 fit straight in as well?
